Maybe 100 exist. Most Spirit Bears live on Princess Royal and Gribbell Islands along the rainforest coast of British Columbia. They are considered a subspecies of black bears called Kermode bears (Ursus americanus kermodeii).

The average weight of a polar bear is 450kg, while a lion weighs around 190kg. This gives polar bears a big physical advantage and would help them win a fight with a lion.

Instead, the hippo needs one or two bites to incapacitate the polar bear. Its massive teeth would penetrate the bear's fur and skin, breaking bones and ripping into organs. In this rare case, speed on land would only matter at the beginning of the fight.

However, the polar bear would likely win the battle in a head-to-head fight featuring two fully grown males. Their larger mass, stronger bite force, and greater stamina would allow them to outlast the smaller, weaker tiger.

What eats tardigrade? ›

Tardigrades reproduce via asexual (parthenogenesis) or sexual reproduction and feed on the fluids of plant cells, animal cells, and bacteria. They are prey to amoebas, nematodes, and other tardigrades. Some species are entirely carnivorous!

Tardigrades are not immortal, but they have a powerful adaptation that allows them to survive for decades in extreme conditions: cryptobiosis. To endure environmental stress, tardigrades suspend their metabolism through a process called cryptobiosis. They curl up and enter a death-like state known as a tun.

There is also some confusion between the tardigrade's sheer hardiness and its ability to live forever. In reality, tardigrades only have a lifespan of a few months – in the active state. This can (and is) interrupted by long periods where they are (to all intents and purposes) “dead.” But more on that later.
